In honor of the first of March, and because I am confident that this brutal winter up here in New England is finally almost over, this post is going to focus on dreamy beach pictures and ponderings. I’ve had a major itch lately for warm weather and finally being able to go to the beach that’s just 5 minutes away. A few weeks ago when the temp rose up to around 45 degrees I made Brian take the dog and I for a walk down by the water.
When we moved in last summer, we were so busy with house projects and my husband traveled so much for work that we really didn’t get to take advantage of the beach that much. I am so excited to be able to bring Kaylee to the beach this season (she loves swimming in the water almost as much as she loves rolling around on dried seaweed in the sand). We don’t love the seaweed snuggling, though, as you can imagine she doesn’t smell all that great afterwards.
As soon as the temperature warms up just a bit, I am determined for us all to get to the beach at least once a week. Even if it’s just to have Sunday coffee and then head home. I know that this time is soon on its way…but for now I’m still bundled up in sweaters and the beach is a distant thought. So, I’ll settle for some of my favorite beach pictures to tide me over (pun intended) until it’s finally Spring.
Following are some pictures from our honeymoon in Fiji. One morning we traveled by boat out to a “sand spit,” which is basically a small, private island that is no larger than the size of a football field when the tide goes out. When the tide comes in, it disappears underneath the Pacific! To even get to the sand spit requires a twenty minute boat ride off of the resort. Naturally, the resort only allows guests to visit this island at very specific times (when the tide is waaaay out). And you have to a really good swimmer. Just kidding. 🙂 Sand spit visits are short – I believe we had an hour, maybe two, max before the resort boat came to pick us up.
It was one of the most unforgettable parts of the trip and I could look at these pictures over and over with happiness. 🙂
The resort has just dropped us off at the sand spit! We are excited!!!
Our resort provided us a picnic breakfast with coffee, yummy breakfast sandwiches, tropical fruit and water.
Another necessity besides breakfast – a resort provided cell phone (in a bright red, water proof, flotation bag) just in case the tide comes in early!!!!
One of my favorite pictures of the whole trip.
This picture shows off the size of the sand spit. Brian had to wade out in knee-dip water for this pic.
One of Brian’s finds (we obviously didn’t keep it).
Fiji is one of the most beautiful, relaxing and happiest places in the world!!!
The tide is coming in! Here is all that’s left of the sand spit, just before we left. In the distance you can see an ancient shipwreck. It was a Japanese ship and that’s really all I know. 🙂
